There are many ways to measure the intensity of moves in the equity market. One method we use is to measure the net percent of stocks up over a certain time period. So, for example we would measure the percent of stocks in the MSCI Europe index with positive performance over the last 200 days (83.4%) and subtract the percent of stocks down over the last 200 days (16.6%) to arrive at the net percent of stocks up over the last 200 days (66.8%).
By this measure, Europe (66.8%) is the most extended technically, with North America (52.4%) second and Asia-Pacific (2%) a distant third.
